Foreign Insurers

In order to write business in the state of Mississippi, foreign nonadmitted insurers must be approved by the Mississippi Insurance Department, MID. MSLA is notified when insurers are added to the MID’s List of Eligible Non-admitted Insurers.

Alien Insurers

Section 524 of the Non-admitted and Reinsurance Reform Act (NRRA) provides for the automatic approval of a non-admitted insurer domiciled outside of the United States if the insurer is listed on the ‘Quarterly Listing of Alien Insurers’ maintained by the International Insurers Department (IID) of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Therefore, insurers appearing on the Quarterly Listing of Alien Insurers are approved to write business in Mississippi.
