Preston H. Gough, Jr.
Preston H. Gough, Jr., is President of Southern Cross Underwriters, in Jackson, Mississippi. Southern Cross is a CRC Company with 12 branch offices located throughout the United States. A graduate of Mississippi College and Mississippi College School of Law, Preston received his business degree in 1972 and his law degree in 1978.
Preston began his insurance career thirty-five (35) years ago as a casualty claim representative with Aetna Casualty and Surety Company. While serving as Administrative Assistant to the Mississippi Worker’s Compensation Commission from 1974 to 1978, Preston also attended Mississippi College School of Law. He then worked for F.W. Williams Agency, Inc., the managing general agent for the USF&G companies in Mississippi, from 1978 to 1981. In 1981 he joined Southern Cross Underwriters, Inc. and was elected President of the company in 1982. Preston remains in that position. On July 1, 2003 Southern Cross was sold to BB&T/CRC.
He is Past Chairman of the Board of the Mississippi Surplus Lines Association. He has been a member of the teaching faculty of the Mississippi Agent’s Licensing Review and has taught classes for the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors. Preston has also been a guest lecturer for the Insurance Departments at University of Mississippi, Mississippi State University and Northeast Louisiana University.
He is a Past President of the American Association of Managing General Agents, Past Chancellor of the AAMGA University and currently serves as Chairman of the AAMGA University Foundation Board. The AAMGA is a national trade organization representing established members of the wholesale insurance Managing General Agency System with contractual authority to perform managerial functions on behalf of insurance companies. The Association consists of approximately 250 member firms and 200 insurance companies and insurance service providers who are associate members.
Preston and his wife, Barbara, are members of Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson, Mississippi and have three grown children and one grandchild.
